WHY CVD DIAMOND

Why CVD Diamond Materials?

CVD diamond combines thermal conductivity, electrical insulation and low thermal expansion for demanding electronic, optical and precision-engineering applications.

High Thermal Conductivity

Selected single-crystal CVD diamond grades are available with thermal conductivity above 1,800 W/m·K for compact heat-spreading components.

>1,800 W/m·K Available single-crystal grades

Electrical Insulation

CVD diamond transfers heat while remaining electrically insulating, supporting applications where thermal and electrical requirements must be managed together.

Thermal + Electrical Combined application requirements

Low Thermal Expansion

Low thermal expansion can support dimensional stability through repeated heating and cooling cycles in precision electronic and optical assemblies.

Dimensional Stability For repeated thermal cycles

Material grade, crystal orientation, dimensions, thickness, surface condition and operating environment should be reviewed together for each application.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CVD Diamond Heat Sink Questions

Review common technical and purchasing questions about CVD diamond grades, dimensions, custom specifications, prototype quantities and quotation requirements.

How do single-crystal and polycrystalline CVD diamond differ?

Single-crystal CVD diamond is generally selected for compact components requiring high material uniformity and thermal performance. Polycrystalline CVD diamond is available in larger wafer and plate formats for applications requiring a wider heat-spreading area. Selection should be based on dimensions, thermal targets and the intended integration method.

What thermal conductivity grades are available?

Available single-crystal grades can provide thermal conductivity above 1,800 W/m·K. Polycrystalline material options range from 800–1,800 W/m·K. Final values depend on the selected material grade, dimensions and product configuration and should be confirmed during technical review.

What sizes, thicknesses and shapes are available?

Single-crystal CVD diamond options include lengths and widths from 1–20 mm and thicknesses from 0.3–5 mm. Polycrystalline options include diameters from 2–6 inches and thicknesses from 0.3–0.5 mm. Rectangular, circular, wafer, plate and drawing-based shapes can be reviewed.

Can you supply CVD diamond to a custom drawing?

Drawing-based configurations can be reviewed for required dimensions, thickness, shape, tolerances and surface condition. Submit the application requirements, estimated quantity and available drawings so that a suitable material and configuration can be evaluated.

Can I request samples or prototype quantities?

Sample and prototype requirements can be reviewed based on the requested material grade, dimensions and quantity. Submit your specification so that the applicable material options can be evaluated before a quotation is prepared.

What information should I provide for a technical review and quotation?

Provide the intended application, operating conditions, preferred material type, dimensions, thickness, thermal target, tolerances, estimated quantity and any available drawings. Complete information helps the technical team evaluate the requirements and prepare an appropriate quotation.
